Trumpifying Washington D.C.
The latest Trump brainstorm for dressing up the Capitol.
Trump obviously needs a hobby beyond destroying all our alliances around the world, finding new ways to enrich himself, and tearing up our Nation’s Capitol. Here’s the latest idea from his overactive ego.
Aaron Parnas summed it up this way, “Trump announced plans to renovate the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool by adding a new ‘American flag blue’ pool-like surface, aiming to improve its appearance and address maintenance issues. He estimated the project would take about a week and cost around $1.5 million, framing it as a beautification effort inspired by his background in real estate development.”
Macron has invited Trump to dinner at Versailles after the June 2026 meeting of the G7. I’ve been to Versailles and suspect that once Trump sees that, his renovation of the Reflecting Pool will expand beyond a one-week project. The $1.5 million cost will likewise expand to ten or twenty million or more. He always thinks more is better.
Maybe after Trump’s reign ends, the Treasury Department can melt down all those gold statues into ingots and send them to Fort Knox, where the U.S. keeps its gold. Then the Reflecting Pool can be restored to the simple beauty that makes the area one of the most photographed in Washington.
Henry Bacon created the original plan and oversaw the construction about 100 years ago. The pool was extensively renovated in 2010-2012 to improve its water circulation. It seems unlikely that just 14 years later it requires further renovation.
Sounds like another Trump vanity project to me.

I’ve been to Versailles, too. It’s a tad overdone! What a nightmare to think a man who never passes up a chance to add gold gee-gaws to everything will see it and want to copy it! It’s bad enough that he’s a truly horrible person and a worse president—but he has no taste!
